Drilling

A Brand ADO-SUS: Coolant-Through Carbide Drills

Work hardening, welding, elongation of cutting chips and poor thermal conductivity are common problems when machining stainless steels and titanium alloys. OSG’s A Brand® ADO-SUS drill series is designed to excel in these materials. ADO-SUS’s "Mega Cooler" coolant hole shape improves coolant flow and chip evacuation while reducing heat generation; this reduces work hardening and results in longer tool life. ADO-SUS also features OSG’s proprietary WXL® coating for improved wear resistance.

Drilling Versatility with the DRV Magic Drill

What do you do when you have a 0.688" diameter drill and you need a 0.697" diameter hole? This sort of question is common in shops that have a limited selection of cutting tools. Kyocera's DRV Magic Drill series can accomplish a radial offset to drill larger than the existing tool. The 0.697" hole shown was drilled in 1018 steel with a S100-DRV0688-5-05.  Inserts were SCMT060205XMECA520D and SCMT060210XMIPR1535. Speeds and feeds used were 390 SFM, F.0016 IPR. The surface finish is very good due to excellent chip evacuation.

GEN3SYS XT Pro Material-specific Geometries and Coating Combinations Deliver Premium Results

GEN3SYS XT Pro high penetration drills feature inserts designed specifically for steels (P), cast irons (K), and non-ferrous materials (N). The material-specific inserts for steel and cast iron have AM400 series coatings providing increased wear resistance and tool life. Inserts for non-ferrous materials are coated with titanium nitride. Diameters range from 11 mm (0.4331 inches) to 35 mm (1.378 inches), and are available in 0.1 mm (0.004 inch) increments. The flute design improves chip evacuation and the coolant configuration directs additional coolant to the cutting zone.

Optimizing vibration-assisted drilling

Process optimization is key to increase the productivity and quality of the machining processes and thus ensure the competitiveness of machining companies. Valid measurements of physical parameters are necessary for the ideal assessment of optimization and measures as well as the efficient use of production resources at their performance limits. MITIS, a leading manufacturer of systems for vibration-assisted drilling, relies on measuring systems from Kistler for cutting force measurement.
