Efficient treatment for wastewater compliance

The metal machining, fabrciation and finishing industries must meet EPA and local wastewater requirements for effluent. Under the Clean Water Act, the EPA has identified 65 pollutants and classes of pollutants as “toxic pollutants,” of which 126 specific substances have been designated “priority” toxic pollutants. Failing to meet these requirements can result in severe fines that quickly escalate.

Surface Finish on A36 Steel

ProvenCut recipe 586 struck a wonderful balance, machining a piece free of chatter and yielding an extraordinary finish using a YG-1 V7 PlusA six-flute endmill held in a Lyndex-Nikken SK16 collet holder. The 2D contour finishing operation was programmed with Autodesk Fusion 360 and run at 210 m/min. (690 sfm) at 0.015 mm feed per tooth (0.0006" feed per tooth) with a 0.203 mm (0.008") radial DOC and 63.5 mm axial DOC.

ALPHA-KUT Quick Change Disks

ALPHA-KUT™ consists of triangular, precision-formed abrasive grains which exhibit the continually self-sharpening properties and wear characteristics of ceramics, delivering a consistent cutting action over a long service life.  The grain strength is complemented by a rigid fiber backing for stability, allowing added pressure for maximum stock removal.  ALPHA-KUT™ quick change discs are ideal for heavy material removal or hardened materials, such as castings where the sprue is removed, large parts with excessive parting lines, large weld removal in narrow or otherwise inaccessible areas, weld or seam removal and blending, leveling and rough shaping, and more.

SHUR-BRITE Surface Conditioning Belts

With repeatable finishes, SHUR-BRITE® belts are ideal for large scale robotic applications.  Users can create linear scratch patterns on stainless steel food equipment, and blend or re-orient scratch patterns after repairs.  High edge durability and flexibility without chunking, and smear-free removal of oxidation, paint or adhesives make them ideal for many manufacturing and re-manufacturing environments.  Ideal for a wide variety of materials including ferrous and non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, exotic alloys, plastics, and composites.

Chip Breaker Inserts

The exclusive FLM 3D chip-breaker design is used on PCD-tipped inserts ideal for finishing of aluminum components, where traditional flat-top inserts may produce a large continuous nest of chips that is difficult to remove from the bore and/or tool, even with high-pressure coolant. Three different radius options are available: .008”, .016” and .031” for the insert TCGT2 (1.5).

Sphero High-Precision Tool Machine

The workpiece unit is mounted vertically and easily accessible for fast changeover. Thanks to the integrated tool changer with a capacity for up to ten tools, even complex machining processes can be carried out in only one clamping process. The machine can be equipped with QuattroClean CO2 snow-jet technology, which enables the workpieces to be cleaned using an environmentally friendly, dry and residue-free method. After cleaning, the machined component is subjected to a scattered light measurement procedure that allows, e.g., the shape or the gloss value to be precisely determined. If a measurement value is not yet satisfactory, the component can then be put through another machining step in the same clamping procedure.
