Tungaloy Enhances T9200 Steel Turning Inserts with New Grades and Geometries

Tungaloy has expanded its T9200 CVD grade insert series to include T9205 and T9235 grades as well as the -TSF and -TM style chipbreakers. Both T9205 and T9235 provide outstanding wear resistance in the P05 and P35 application ranges surpassing existing CVD grades. These capabilities are possible due to Tungaloy’s innovative coating technologies, including:

NUM AG helps machine tool company develop CNC grinding machines for manufacturing specialized gears

NUM AG is helping Taiwanese machine tool company Chien Wei Precise Technology Co. Ltd. develop CNC grinding machines for manufacturing specialized gears used in robotics applications. Based on NUM’s Flexium+ 68 CNC platform, Chien Wei’s machines are designed to speed the production of both involute and cycloidal profile precision gears.

Cutting the coolant when making gears

When it comes to hobbing auto gears, dry machining dominates. “There are no new automotive applications that are being done wet,” said Tom Ware, product manager for gear tools at Star SU Co. LLC, Hoffman Estates, Ill. “There are a few tier suppliers that have not updated to new equipment and are still running some wet applications, but all the major manufacturers have gone dry.”
