Ingersoll Cutting Tool's two-start hob accepts indexable carbide inserts with four cutting edges. The hob nearly doubles productivity when machining gears with large number of teeth compared to single-start, indexable-insert hobs, according to the company.
The company reports that no shims or adjustment is required for setup, and the hob's segmented design enables expandable assembly and simplifies repair. The hob can be designed for roughing, pregrinding and finishing applications, depending on the gear quality requirement.
