6-Station Wheel Changer

July 01, 2011

Rollomatic Inc. continues the success and growth of its 6-axis GrindSmart series of multi-axis tool grinding machines by announcing the addition of an optional 6-station wheel changer. Particularly suited as a versatile tool grinder for manufacturing rotary cutting tools and inserts, this machine is the best choice for competitive toolmakers to produce the highest quality tools with total cost-efficiency.

Each wheel changing station includes the relevant coolant pipes, so that an automatic change-over can typically occur without operator intervention. The wheel changer is integrated into the standard machine and no additional floor space is needed.

This wheel changer will make the machine even more suitable for continuous production and more versatile for specialty cutting tools, such as form and step tools. In combination with the new software platform VGPro, Rollomatic's strategy with this machine is based on offering the highest possible flexibility and quickest change-over time in production grinding of all types of cutting tools and inserts. This approach has resulted in substantial success of this machine and its several predecessors as it will with this new option.

  • coolant

    coolant

Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.

  • grinding

    grinding

Machining operation in which material is removed from the workpiece by a powered abrasive wheel, stone, belt, paste, sheet, compound, slurry, etc. Takes various forms: surface grinding (creates flat and/or squared surfaces); cylindrical grinding (for external cylindrical and tapered shapes, fillets, undercuts, etc.); centerless grinding; chamfering; thread and form grinding; tool and cutter grinding; offhand grinding; lapping and polishing (grinding with extremely fine grits to create ultrasmooth surfaces); honing; and disc grinding.
