With its new KASTOwin range, KASTO Inc., Export, Penn., presents a flexible, universal solution for serial and production sawing of solid materials, tubes and profiles, according to a recent company news release. Four automatic band saw models were presented at the company's 170th anniversary event.
The full line will be on display for the first time at AMB 2016, an international exhibition for metalworking set for Sept. 13-17 in Stuttgart, Germany.
The KASTOwin line consists of five fully automatic band saws that cover a cutting range from 330mm to 1,060mm. The machines are said to be suitable for use with different steels and, therefore, a flexible solution for many industrial sectors, including aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering and toolmaking within the steel and automotive industries.
"Our objective was to develop an all-round saw which would enable us to fulfill the majority of our customers’ normal requirements," said KASTOwin Product Manager Hilmar Gehrmann. "Many companies do not want expensive special designs, but a cost-effective and economical standard solution."
The five KASTOwin models—A 3.3, A 4.6, A 5.6, A 8.6 and A 10.6—are all built based on the same design and components, according to the company. This standardization is said to reduce material procurement costs as well as the manufacturing and assembly effort. The end result, according to the company, is that KASTO is able to pass those savings onto its customers.
The KASTOwin's torsionally rigid upper section reportedly provides greater vibration damping than conventional cast-iron structures. As the other housing components are made from robust steel as well, the KASTOwin saw blade is said to run quietly and produce better accuracy when sawing. The vice and saw feed are also equipped with zero-play linear guides, while ball screw spindle drives ensure controlled cutting and material feed movements that enable the KASTOwin to achieve a cutting accuracy of ±0.1mm over a 100mm cutting length at cutting speeds of up to 150m/min.
The SmartControl sawing machine controller, which contains all the material data and automatically sets all the necessary parameters, is said to help ensure maxiumum cutting performance for the KASTOwin models. In addition, the KASTOrespond system developed specifically for the KASTOwin range, continuously records the forces at the tool and uses an intelligent algorithm to convert these into feed movements.
