Gemini NGM and Sirius NGS Tool Grinding Machines

November 01, 2015

J. Schneeberger Machinen AG offers two new grinding machines: the Gemini NGM (pictured) and the Sirius NGS. With both machines, space requirement was give special attention to achieve smallest footprint with a large work envelope.

The Gemini NGM configuration has been expanded to loading systems with two or four pallets and three sizes of wheel loaders with wheel package capabilities of up to 25 pockets. Generous and flexible options and configurations make this machine an ideal production machine for a large range of applications and special solutions. Linear axis technology is available.

The Sirius NGS has an extremely small machine size with a large work envelope for a machine designed to grind indexable tooling, microtools, profiled inserts and many more high production applications. This machine too offers a wealth of options for loading, laser marking, measuring and dressing make it a cost effective solution for the high production application. The machine is standard built with linear motor technology.

Related Glossary Terms

  • dressing

    dressing

Removal of undesirable materials from “loaded” grinding wheels using a single- or multi-point diamond or other tool. The process also exposes unused, sharp abrasive points. See loading; truing.

  • grinding

    grinding

Machining operation in which material is removed from the workpiece by a powered abrasive wheel, stone, belt, paste, sheet, compound, slurry, etc. Takes various forms: surface grinding (creates flat and/or squared surfaces); cylindrical grinding (for external cylindrical and tapered shapes, fillets, undercuts, etc.); centerless grinding; chamfering; thread and form grinding; tool and cutter grinding; offhand grinding; lapping and polishing (grinding with extremely fine grits to create ultrasmooth surfaces); honing; and disc grinding.

  • linear motor

    linear motor

Functionally the same as a rotary motor in a machine tool, a linear motor can be thought of as a standard permanent-magnet, rotary-style motor slit axially to the center and then peeled back and laid flat. The major advantage of using a linear motor to drive the axis motion is that it eliminates the inefficiency and mechanical variance caused by the ballscrew assembly system used in most CNC machines.

  • work envelope

    work envelope

Cube, sphere, cylinder or other physical space within which the cutting tool is capable of reaching.
