As demand for implants, surgical devices and other medical components continues, GF Machining Solutions says it plans to intensify its support of North American medical manufacturers with the opening of a Medical Center of Competence at its Lincolnshire, Illinois, facility.

As the first of kind, the new center will provide manufacturers supplying the medical industry with comprehensive applications support along with world-class production technologies that include precision milling, EDM, laser texturing, micromachining and automation.

GF Machining Solutions will celebrate the grand opening of the new center with free special events on April 19 from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm with lunch provided and on April 20 at the nearby GF Machining Solutions Microlution facility.

At the Medical Center of Competence event, visitors will have the opportunity to tour the over 50,000 square-foot state-of-art facility and experience firsthand some of the most advanced technologies producing key medical components. In addition to special guest presentations, the event will showcase the company’s fully automated order to production system and specialized control demonstrations.

Also as part of the grand opening celebration, GF Machining Solutions Microlution will conduct factory tours and product demonstrations in its facility at 6629 West Irvine Park Road, Chicago, on April 20th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm (lunch include). Highlighted technologies include femto laser solutions that allow medical manufacturers to tackle their toughest high-precision machining applications.

“In terms of advanced technology, GF Machining Solutions is the industry authority on medical manufacturing,” said Chris Jones, President – Head of Market Region North & Central America. “The new Medical Center of Competence further reinforces that, not only creating an environment for project collaboration, but also providing a place for medical manufacturers to learn how technologies such as high-speed milling, EDM, laser texturing, micromachining and automation will boost their productivity and keep them competitive.”

At the new center, manufacturers will have access to the GF Machining Solutions industry-leading medical application support teams as well as sales and service representatives. With extensive experience in the manufacture of complex, high-precision parts, the company will provide strategies and technologies for improving the production of medical instruments, orthopedic and trauma implants, consumables, dental parts, packaging and more.

Related Glossary Terms

  • electrical-discharge machining ( EDM)

    electrical-discharge machining ( EDM)

Process that vaporizes conductive materials by controlled application of pulsed electrical current that flows between a workpiece and electrode (tool) in a dielectric fluid. Permits machining shapes to tight accuracies without the internal stresses conventional machining often generates. Useful in diemaking.

  • gang cutting ( milling)

    gang cutting ( milling)

Machining with several cutters mounted on a single arbor, generally for simultaneous cutting.

  • milling

    milling

Machining operation in which metal or other material is removed by applying power to a rotating cutter. In vertical milling, the cutting tool is mounted vertically on the spindle. In horizontal milling, the cutting tool is mounted horizontally, either directly on the spindle or on an arbor. Horizontal milling is further broken down into conventional milling, where the cutter rotates opposite the direction of feed, or “up” into the workpiece; and climb milling, where the cutter rotates in the direction of feed, or “down” into the workpiece. Milling operations include plane or surface milling, endmilling, facemilling, angle milling, form milling and profiling.
