ReamMeister Interchangeable-Head Reaming System

Tungaloy is introducing ReamMeister, an interchangeable head reamer system. ReamMeister is a high precision, interchangeable head reaming system capable of reaming holes in an H7 diameter tolerance range. The ReamMeister tools meet the requirements of high accuracy reaming because the head geometry’s diameter and runout accuracy is strictly controlled when being finished by precise grinding and the taper-and-face contact connection guarantees high concentricity within very close limits.

The reamer is easy-to-operate thanks to a unique connection screw that allows the head to be quickly replaced with a simple rotation of the head with a dedicated key. The head can be indexed and replaced while still mounted in the machine or arbor with virtually zero setup time.

Two styles of reamer heads are available: the versatile AS-style head is suited for reaming various hole types and materials; while the BL style features left-handed flutes that push chips forward immediately after formation, making it ideal for through hole reaming. Both reaming heads are PVD coated allowing reaming applications at high speeds with prolonged tool life, which was not possible with traditional brazed or non-coated solid counterparts.

ReamMeister brings great economic benefits to customers while also boosting productivity and extending tool life with virtually zero tool setup time.

At a Glance:

Diameter range: 11.5 mm – 32.0 mm

Length-to-diameter ratios: 1.5D, 3D, 5D and 8D

Related Glossary Terms

  • arbor

    arbor

Shaft used for rotary support in machining applications. In grinding, the spindle for mounting the wheel; in milling and other cutting operations, the shaft for mounting the cutter.

  • flutes

    flutes

Grooves and spaces in the body of a tool that permit chip removal from, and cutting-fluid application to, the point of cut.

  • grinding

    grinding

Machining operation in which material is removed from the workpiece by a powered abrasive wheel, stone, belt, paste, sheet, compound, slurry, etc. Takes various forms: surface grinding (creates flat and/or squared surfaces); cylindrical grinding (for external cylindrical and tapered shapes, fillets, undercuts, etc.); centerless grinding; chamfering; thread and form grinding; tool and cutter grinding; offhand grinding; lapping and polishing (grinding with extremely fine grits to create ultrasmooth surfaces); honing; and disc grinding.

  • physical vapor deposition ( PVD)

    physical vapor deposition ( PVD)

Tool-coating process performed at low temperature (500° C), compared to chemical vapor deposition (1,000° C). Employs electric field to generate necessary heat for depositing coating on a tool’s surface. See CVD, chemical vapor deposition.

  • reamer

    reamer

Rotating cutting tool used to enlarge a drilled hole to size. Normally removes only a small amount of stock. The workpiece supports the multiple-edge cutting tool. Also for contouring an existing hole.

  • shank

    shank

Main body of a tool; the portion of a drill or similar end-held tool that fits into a collet, chuck or similar mounting device.

  • tolerance

    tolerance

Minimum and maximum amount a workpiece dimension is allowed to vary from a set standard and still be acceptable.
