Ingersoll Cutting Tools announced the next step in the evolution of the fixed-pocket, indexable BTA drill head. The new TBTA-H series heads range in diameter from 0.984" to 2.559" (25mm-65mm) and provide higher accuracy, improved straightness, better surface finish and longer tool life compared to the TBTA-C and TBTA-D series heads, according to the company.
An "H" class, peripheral ground insert mounted in the outboard station provides 50 percent tighter hole variation, providing IT10 accuracy (0.0028" total tolerance), as well as higher speed and feed capability.
Wider chip mouth for maximum chip evacuation clearance allows smooth delivery of coolant to the cutting edge and assures sufficient cooling for the guide pads.
Related Glossary Terms
- clearance
clearance
Space provided behind a tool’s land or relief to prevent rubbing and subsequent premature deterioration of the tool. See land; relief.
- coolant
coolant
Fluid that reduces temperature buildup at the tool/workpiece interface during machining. Normally takes the form of a liquid such as soluble or chemical mixtures (semisynthetic, synthetic) but can be pressurized air or other gas. Because of water’s ability to absorb great quantities of heat, it is widely used as a coolant and vehicle for various cutting compounds, with the water-to-compound ratio varying with the machining task. See cutting fluid; semisynthetic cutting fluid; soluble-oil cutting fluid; synthetic cutting fluid.
- feed
feed
Rate of change of position of the tool as a whole, relative to the workpiece while cutting.
