Tricks and techniques for specifying surface texture parameters
ZYGO caught up with Dr. Mark Malburg of Digital Metrology and Carl Musolff of Musolff Consulting to discuss how to get the most out of surface parameters. Their years of front-line experience provide valuable insight into precision manufacturing processes, and why choosing the right type of metrology, and examining the correct parameters, are critical to controlling the manufacturing process.
Get lean and fit with ERP
How does ERP turn an overweight, inefficient manufacturing business into a lean, fit, and supercharged manufacturing machine?
Selecting a grade to cater to ISO P steel
A common misconception in the metalworking industry is that machining steel is simple. Experienced machinists know that turning ISO P steel is anything but simple. First, among many concerns is the breadth of materials in ISO P classification that range from ductile low-carbon steels to high-alloyed.
Clevis Linkages Range
As WDS clevis linkages are designed to the DIN and ISO standards, this ensures fit across the widest range of applications. The range is also suited to new machines and retrofit with a design that allows for greater flexibility in alignment. The clevis fork and eye connection enables a margin of movement, which is particularly useful for easily linking two components in hydraulic and pneumatic applications where precise alignment can be challenging to achieve.
Ultra-Precision Balance Chucks
When parts rotate without calibration, increased or insufficient pressure occurs, causing errors with the end-product. In a high precision environment, even the smallest difference can have a huge impact on the final product. When the fine tolerances have been exceeded, the result can be expensive and time-consuming repairs.
TOP-Cut VAR Range Expanded
The TOP-Cut VAR line is now available in 4,5, and 6-flute configurations, with or without corner radius, and ball nose, stub, standard and long lengths in inch sizes, over 300 SKU's in total. In addition, EMUGE-FRANKEN USA can provide custom variations or tool modifications of TOP-Cut VAR mills.
Production Manager for ProNest CAD/CAM
Production Manager seamlessly integrates with Hypertherm's EDGE Connect CNC, to automatically capture machine data without the need for operator intervention. In addition, it displays real-time production data so team members across an organization can track the status of job orders, the production schedule, and pending inventory requirements.
TungCut Multifunctional Grooving System
For job shops that are mass-producing small parts with Swiss lathes, minimizing material waste in the part-off process can be an extremely effective solution for cost savings. The 1.2 mm-wide (.047″-wide) grooving inserts can reduce the material waste produced by parting-off by up to 40% when compared with using 2.0 mm-wide (.079″-wide) insert. This translates to, after 2,500 cuts, the saving of a 2,000 mm-long (78.74″ long) bar stock.
ESPRIT Additive Powder-Bed Fusion (PBF)
PBF is the most mature additive manufacturing technology for industrial production and represents 86 percent of the worldwide machine install base. PBF is used to build 3D parts by heating successive layers of powder, typically at the micron-level, and generally produces parts that require finishing with conventional CNC machine tools to achieve a high-quality surface finish.
