Model 9200 Tool and Cutter Grinder

April 01, 2015

Unison Corp. offers the 8-axis Model 9200 CNC tool and cutter grinder. The Model 9200 is designed to produce ultraprecise tools, which are commonly used in the manufacture of industrial, medical and critical aerospace components. This grinder is equipped with Yaskawa AC servomotors and drive amplifiers, as well as an automatic pick-and-place parts loader/unloader for 24/7 lights-out manufacturing.

The Model 9200 uses a probe assembly to guarantee repeatability of parts and can be equipped with an on-board electric wheel dressing system. The Model 9200 can manufacture drills, endmills and reamers quickly and precisely with its 27-horsepower (20kw) direct-drive grinding spindle.

Unison's proprietary EZ Software allows the machine's operator to quickly customize and/or modify tool geometry with a user friendly interface and then verify the part program by using the machine's real-time 3D Parts Predictor. Unison's software also allows operators to import .DXF files from CAD Software. Each machine is supplied with a complete software package and library of tool programs at no additional charge.

    computer numerical control ( CNC)

Microprocessor-based controller dedicated to a machine tool that permits the creation or modification of parts. Programmed numerical control activates the machine’s servos and spindle drives and controls the various machining operations. See DNC, direct numerical control; NC, numerical control.

  • computer-aided design ( CAD)

    computer-aided design ( CAD)

Product-design functions performed with the help of computers and special software.

  • dressing

    dressing

Removal of undesirable materials from “loaded” grinding wheels using a single- or multi-point diamond or other tool. The process also exposes unused, sharp abrasive points. See loading; truing.

  • grinding

    grinding

Machining operation in which material is removed from the workpiece by a powered abrasive wheel, stone, belt, paste, sheet, compound, slurry, etc. Takes various forms: surface grinding (creates flat and/or squared surfaces); cylindrical grinding (for external cylindrical and tapered shapes, fillets, undercuts, etc.); centerless grinding; chamfering; thread and form grinding; tool and cutter grinding; offhand grinding; lapping and polishing (grinding with extremely fine grits to create ultrasmooth surfaces); honing; and disc grinding.
