Leitz SIRIO Xi 6.8.8 Coordinate Measuring Machine

September 01, 2014

Hexagon Metrology announced the release of the Leitz SIRIO Xi 6.8.8 coordinate measuring machine for the North American market. The high-end SIRIO Xi was designed around key customer requirements for maximum capability across the board in throughput, precision, efficiency, speed and competence, according to the company. Leitz SIRIO CMMs are also used as gear inspection centers. All types of gears can be measured quickly and with a high degree of precision. Gear cutting tools such as hob cutters, broaches, shaper cutters and shaving gears can also be measured on the Leitz SIRIO Xi.

The Leitz SIRIO Xi benefits from a robust design and can be quickly and easily set up or moved. Equipped with a stylus changer, with up to 24 magazine positions, and a new control unit, the SIRIO Xi offers excellent flexibility and reproducibility, providing ideal support for networked manufacturing processes and serial production process control. With its proprietary rotary table, Hexagon Metrology has once again raised the bar in application and operation technology. The high static overall mass with low center of gravity gives the measuring machine stability, as well as resistance to forces and vibrations. Thermal compensation minimizes temperature gradients, allowing a consistently high level of process stability at ambient temperatures of up to 40 degrees C.

"This machine is a turnkey solution, ready for the production environment," says Gerhard Ehling, sales support manager at Hexagon Metrology GmbH. "Close cooperation with our customers and years of experience in hardware and software development make us specialists for complete solutions. We know that reliability and availability are key criteria for metrology on the shop floor. Our comprehensive offering consists of hardware, software, sensors and services from a single source. With our broad range of accessories, we can equip the Leitz SIRIO Xi for customer-specific applications and integrate it seamlessly into any production process."

  • centers

    centers

Cone-shaped pins that support a workpiece by one or two ends during machining. The centers fit into holes drilled in the workpiece ends. Centers that turn with the workpiece are called “live” centers; those that do not are called “dead” centers.

  • metrology

    metrology

Science of measurement; the principles on which precision machining, quality control and inspection are based. See precision machining, measurement.

  • process control

    process control

Method of monitoring a process. Relates to electronic hardware and instrumentation used in automated process control. See in-process gaging, inspection; SPC, statistical process control.

  • slotting machine ( shaper)

    slotting machine ( shaper)

Vertical or horizontal machine that accommodates single-point, reciprocating cutting tools to shape or slot a workpiece. Normally used for special (unusual/intricate shapes), low-volume runs typically performed by broaching or milling machines. See broaching machine; mill, milling machine.
