IDS Cutting Tools has introduced semifinished PCBN inserts that allow toolmakers to produce a finished PCBN-tipped insert with no need for brazing. Toolmakers will receive a steel body with full-height tips that only requires grinding to produce a finished insert.
The semifinished inserts come in three grades, designed for hard steel, cast iron roughing and cast iron finishing applications. The new technology allows for material cost reductions of up to 60 percent.
