Mikron Corp. Monroe engineers special tools, which are often combination tools for several different machining operations. That reduces the number of tool changes and the repeated setting of subsequent tools and increases part quality, according to the company. With an optimal design, a 30 percent or more reduction in the cost per part can be achieved. To ensure an advantageous price-to-performance ratio, the toolmaker produces special cutting tools in minimum batch sizes of five to 10 tools.
