PG Bore Gages

December 13, 2012

Sunnen's PG Bore Gages take an intuitive approach to hole gaging with a mechanical design and speedometer-type scale for quick visual confirmation of ID (inside diameter) by a busy machine operator. The gage combines lab-precise accuracy (+/-0.000025"/0.0006mm) with a shop-hardened design that's compact, portable and mountable on machining stations.

PG gages can be used to examine the entire bore for diameter, taper, barrel, bell mouth, out-of-round and lobing. A sliding faceplate with adjustable stops permits end-to-end examination of bores. Stops can be set to allow examination of a particular section of the bore, with accuracy right up to the edge of ports, lands and ends. The speedometer-type scale provides readouts down to 0.000050" (.001mm) for 100 percent inspection of machining operations or fast sampling of large vendor lots. Various models are available for gaging IDs from 0.090" to 4.310". Metric models cover IDs from 2.0-109.47mm.

The PG Bore Gage removes complexity, skill and "feel" from the measurement process, allowing machine operators to precisely confirm part size with an intuitive analog scale. The unique design of these gages is not affected by temperature, moisture, air pressure, or vibration, and they need no electrical or air connections, making them immune to fluctuations in line voltage or air pressure.

A calibration ring traceable to NIST and international standards comes with the gage and features nominal size at 68°F marked on the face. Calibration checks with the ring ensure that gage-setting capability retains accuracy within original limits of +/-0.000020".

Sunnen's new HTR all-electric job-shop tube hone combines servo precision and cycle-automation features with constant spindle power and 0.1mm (0.004") stroke repeatability to efficiently hone blind bores or correct tight spots in a bore without operator intervention.

Sunnen Products Co. is introducing a 60-grit premium red aluminum-oxide honing abrasive that reportedly cuts material 25 to 50 percent faster than other conventional stones, depending on the workpiece material.

Sunnen says its new HTE honing system, the company's most cost-effective small-diameter hone, produces ideal bore geometry and surface finish, while eliminating problems from bad tool-to-part alignment and excessive feed rates that cause tool breaks and scrap parts.

Sunnen Products Co. announces the availability of optional, large-readout electronic indicators on its entire range of dial bore gages.

Sunnen's patented multi-feed honing technology gives gear manufacturers a choice of tool-feed modes to achieve the shortest cycle times, lowest part cost, and longest abrasive life.

Sunnen Products Co.'s new HTG series tube hones are designed as oil field workhorses with high-volume throughput and increased part capacity.

Sunnen Products Co. says it meets contemporary needs for planet-friendly industrial consumables with the introduction of SHO-500, a long-lived general-purpose honing fluid based on a renewable vegetable formulation that makes sustainable metalworking affordable and practical.

Sunnen Product Co.'s new HTD tube hone delivers a 16m (52') stroke, and handles parts up to 1,000mm (39") in diameter.
