BOLD Laser Automation put into development of a cost-effective, modular UR Cobot loader unloader for laser-based microfabrication applications called the LPF-UR5P Series (Laser Precision Fabricator – UR Cobot 5 – Pallet System), including options for laser drilling, trimming, welding, marking, and laser soldering. With a UR Robot part placement of ±0.030 mm (±0.0012”), the system is an excellent process automation choice.  With onboard or remote camera alignment options, an assembly to be processed can be picked up, aligned, and inserted into a processing fixture automatically.

Called FREEDOM ULTIMATE and FREEDOM ULTIMATE SCAN, the new arms are available with measurement volumes from 2.5 to 4.5 metres, according to model. Each complements the comparable size of existing FREEDOM CLASSIC and higher accuracy FREEDOM SELECT products with six axes designed for touch probing, as well as the 7-axis SCAN equivalents for multi-sensor metrology including laser scanning.

With the addition of more standard, vacuum compatible hexapods, the load range of 5 to 80kg is covered; custom models for loads up to 1 ton have been designed as well. The hexapods provide very high resolution and repeatability to 0.1µm and 2 µrad, respectively. The vacuum series was designed from the ground up for vacuum compatibility, with each component qualified to work under the specified conditions. Everything, from the base materials, nuts and bolts, encoders, cables, limit switches, was selected for optimal performance.

REcreate’s analysis tools also enable manufacturing professionals to interrogate those 3D models and validate whether they are manufacturable before exporting as CAD or STL for computer aided manufacturing (CAM) or additive manufacturing processes.

Depending on the application, the stainless steel adjusting screws are available in a variety of thread diameters and lengths and can be optimally fastened to the production machine in combination with bearing blocks GN 828 from Winco. Once the optimal setting has been found, the adjusting screw can be locked in place with a stainless steel knurled nut GN 827.1 designed specifically for this purpose. The bearing blocks are made of matte, smoothly polished aluminum which can be mounted from above or from the front.

Common line cutting which allows operators to cut two or more parts so that they share at least one common line with one another. This provides greater material utilization and better consumable life. Costing for parts, nests, and jobs to include factors such as consumable wear, machine operating cost, labor costs, electricity, etc. Auto-select of material so operators can enter basic material descriptions in settings and automatically map to available materials. With this feature, operators no longer need to separately pick a material and thickness once a tube size and wall thickness is selected.

Mitsubishi and Absolute jointly designed the plug-and-play cell. It consists of a Mitsubishi industrial robot, a wheeled stainless steel base, a clear polycarbonate cell enclosure featuring a safety door with an interlock switch, and a side table extension. The cell accommodates Mitsubishi 6-axis RV-series robots ranging in load capacity from 7 kg to 20 kg and reach up to 1,388mm. Integrating the robot cell with a CNC machine is a one-step process using a single Ethernet cable, Mitsubishi’s Direct Robot Control function and the Mitsubishi M8 series control. The LoadMate Plus can also interface with other control types via remote I/O connectivity.

A special mechanical post-treatment improves hairline crack performance and protects the cutting edge from micro-spalling. The light gold-colored topcoat of the multilayer system makes it easier to detect wear and thereby improves process reliability. Unused cutting edges are reliably identified, making it possible to utilize the full potential of the indexable insert and further extending tool life.

AH9130, consisting of a PVD coating layer optimized for drilling applications with a dedicated carbide substrate, is the latest insert grade specifically developed to provide significant tool life improvements and more predictable wear patterns in hole making applications of ISO P (steel), ISO M (stainless steel), and ISO K (cast iron). 17 SMP-style inserts have been released in the latest grade, covering diameters from 20.0 mm to 35.0 mm (.787″ to 1.378″). In addition to Tungaloy’s versatile grade AH725 which covers most ISO materials, AH9130 provides DrillForce-Meister with added process security and tool life improvements in ISO P, M, and K applications.
