Coroplus Tool GuardNiels Bredick, senior solutions specialist at Sandvik Coromant, is a member of the team that won a 2020 Henry Ford Technology Award (HFTA) for development and implementation of the Torque Monitoring of Gear Machining Process.

Ford Motor Company awards the HFTA in global recognition of technical achievements that have been implemented into Ford products and production. The award resulted from a solution developed by the project team from Ford’s Powertrain Manufacturing Engineering (PTME) and Sharonville, Ohio, facility.

The overall technology, “Torque Monitoring of Gear Machining Process,” among various solutions, also uses CoroPlus Tool Guard of the Sandvik Coromant Process Control line. The system allows the company to digitally monitor a gear machining process to avoid costly scrap parts. The process generated significant savings, and, after proving its value in the Sharonville plant, Ford has piloted the Sandvik Coromant solution in its Livonia, Michigan, plant.

“This highlights the power of our digital offer,” said Jeff Rizzie, vice president of digital machining at Sandvik Coromant. “It shows how we’re able to drive customer satisfaction through non-traditional solutions, as well as the dedication of our digital machining team.”
