LACH DIAMOND says its newly developed PCD twist drill type PS saves up to 75 percent of time by reducing three previously necessary steps to one process. The new PCD twist drill completes piloting, drilling and reaming all in one “shot.”
LACH DIAMOND looks back on a long tradition of developing and manufacturing PCD drills for the machining of composites – CFRP - GRP – especially for use in aircraft and automotive lightweight construction.
LACH DIAMOND PCD twist drills have a 70° to 180° point angle and are available with either a double-cone or step-drill geometry and a double margin for drilling qualities up to h6. Standard drills are available from 2.5 to 12 mm in diameter.

- composites
composites
Materials composed of different elements, with one element normally embedded in another, held together by a compatible binder.
- point angle
point angle
Included angle at the point of a twist drill or similar tool; for general-purpose tools, the point angle is typically 118°.
- polycrystalline diamond ( PCD)
polycrystalline diamond ( PCD)
Cutting tool material consisting of natural or synthetic diamond crystals bonded together under high pressure at elevated temperatures. PCD is available as a tip brazed to a carbide insert carrier. Used for machining nonferrous alloys and nonmetallic materials at high cutting speeds.
- twist drill
twist drill
Most common type of drill, having two or more cutting edges, and having helical grooves adjacent thereto for the passage of chips and for admitting coolant to the cutting edges. Twist drills are used either for originating holes or for enlarging existing holes. Standard twist drills come in fractional sizes from 1¼16" to 11¼2", wire-gage sizes from 1 to 80, letter sizes A to Z and metric sizes.
