Xact Wire EDM has invested in three new machines to broaden its capabilities and capacity in its wire EDM, small hole and laser part marking services.

The machines include:

Keyence MDX2500 laser marking machine
The Keyence MDX2500 laser marking machine offers great flexibility on bigger jobs.

In addition, the machine uses Surface Fitting and Multi-Level Focusing to laser on complex surfaces and shapes. It also features an internal camera ensuring that the highest quality mark is put down every time.

Xact offers laser marking for any parts that need identification. Our laser marking services are commonly used to produce bar codes, QR codes, logos, serial numbers, patent numbers, date codes, and more, such as arrows and other symbols on in-house tooling and fixturing. Graphics can also be created.

Sodick ALN600G+SPW wire machine
This new wire machine adds capacity to the fleet of nearly 50 machines the company already has.

In addition, this machine has Sodick’s next generation SPW Smart Pulse Wire control technology for improved cutting speeds and precision.

Belmont SY-3040ST CNC machine
The new Belmont SY-3040ST CNC machine is specifically designed for carbide applications, among others, and uses an EDM oil as its dielectric—giving us more overall capacity on small hole EDM jobs.

Related Glossary Terms

  • computer numerical control ( CNC)

    computer numerical control ( CNC)

Microprocessor-based controller dedicated to a machine tool that permits the creation or modification of parts. Programmed numerical control activates the machine’s servos and spindle drives and controls the various machining operations. See DNC, direct numerical control; NC, numerical control.

  • electrical-discharge machining ( EDM)

    electrical-discharge machining ( EDM)

Process that vaporizes conductive materials by controlled application of pulsed electrical current that flows between a workpiece and electrode (tool) in a dielectric fluid. Permits machining shapes to tight accuracies without the internal stresses conventional machining often generates. Useful in diemaking.

  • wire EDM

    wire EDM

Process similar to ram electrical-discharge machining except a small-diameter copper or brass wire is used as a traveling electrode. Usually used in conjunction with a CNC and only works when a part is to be cut completely through. A common analogy is wire electrical-discharge machining is like an ultraprecise, electrical, contour-sawing operation.
