66-700 Series DFC Multiflute, Low-Helix Endmill

July 01, 2014

LMT Onsrud LP introduces a new cutting tool to machine composite materials. LMT Onsrud says its 66-700 series produces a superior edge in carbon fiber material. The tool's low-helix flute design results in reduced vibration and quiet cutting compared to PCD endmills.

The open flute geometry allows for heat dissipation, therefore preventing resin flow. The multiflute configuration results in faster feed rates than a PCD tool.

LMT Onsrud's 66-700 series DFC multiflute, low-helix tools are coated with a diamond film coating to extend tool life in today's highly abrasive composites.

    abrasive

Substance used for grinding, honing, lapping, superfinishing and polishing. Examples include garnet, emery, corundum, silicon carbide, cubic boron nitride and diamond in various grit sizes.

  • composites

    composites

Materials composed of different elements, with one element normally embedded in another, held together by a compatible binder.

  • feed

    feed

Rate of change of position of the tool as a whole, relative to the workpiece while cutting.

  • polycrystalline diamond ( PCD)

    polycrystalline diamond ( PCD)

Cutting tool material consisting of natural or synthetic diamond crystals bonded together under high pressure at elevated temperatures. PCD is available as a tip brazed to a carbide insert carrier. Used for machining nonferrous alloys and nonmetallic materials at high cutting speeds.
