Big-Plus BBT Range of Fullcut Mill Tools Expanded for Wider Applications and Better Depths

BIG DAISHOWA has expanded its lineup of Fullcut Mill FCM tools to include larger diameters and additional lengths. The BIG-PLUS BBT series now offers a 63 mm diameter cutter. The 25 mm and 32 mm diameter series have extended their length to 105 mm (4 in).

The larger diameter cutter and new lengths both boost the Fullcut Mill FCM BBT line’s already-considerable versatility, allowing machinists to tailor their tool selections for many different applications. The BIG-PLUS BBT shank products are compatible with both BIG-PLUS and existing BT spindle machines. This allows for seamless integration, no matter the machining setup.

In addition, the integrated structure and low-cutting resistance result in high-efficiency machining, ideal for grooving and shoulder milling. These products also offer a maximum depth of cut nearly four times more efficient than that of conventional arbor-type cutters.

Related Glossary Terms

  • depth of cut

    depth of cut

Distance between the bottom of the cut and the uncut surface of the workpiece, measured in a direction at right angles to the machined surface of the workpiece.

  • gang cutting ( milling)

    gang cutting ( milling)

Machining with several cutters mounted on a single arbor, generally for simultaneous cutting.

  • grooving

    grooving

Machining grooves and shallow channels. Example: grooving ball-bearing raceways. Typically performed by tools that are capable of light cuts at high feed rates. Imparts high-quality finish.

  • milling

    milling

Machining operation in which metal or other material is removed by applying power to a rotating cutter. In vertical milling, the cutting tool is mounted vertically on the spindle. In horizontal milling, the cutting tool is mounted horizontally, either directly on the spindle or on an arbor. Horizontal milling is further broken down into conventional milling, where the cutter rotates opposite the direction of feed, or “up” into the workpiece; and climb milling, where the cutter rotates in the direction of feed, or “down” into the workpiece. Milling operations include plane or surface milling, endmilling, facemilling, angle milling, form milling and profiling.

  • milling machine ( mill)

    milling machine ( mill)

Runs endmills and arbor-mounted milling cutters. Features include a head with a spindle that drives the cutters; a column, knee and table that provide motion in the three Cartesian axes; and a base that supports the components and houses the cutting-fluid pump and reservoir. The work is mounted on the table and fed into the rotating cutter or endmill to accomplish the milling steps; vertical milling machines also feed endmills into the work by means of a spindle-mounted quill. Models range from small manual machines to big bed-type and duplex mills. All take one of three basic forms: vertical, horizontal or convertible horizontal/vertical. Vertical machines may be knee-type (the table is mounted on a knee that can be elevated) or bed-type (the table is securely supported and only moves horizontally). In general, horizontal machines are bigger and more powerful, while vertical machines are lighter but more versatile and easier to set up and operate.

  • shank

    shank

Main body of a tool; the portion of a drill or similar end-held tool that fits into a collet, chuck or similar mounting device.

The BIG CAPTO C3 square holders for turning applications come in left and right orientation. The turning application holders—C3-180-BH16R-2058 and C3-180-BH16L-2058—are mono-block holders. Their insert clamps are tough and reliable, adding on to the already inherently high rigidity of mono-block…

The Mega Double Power Chuck system features an expanded contact diameter of the nut to the flange, which provides the highest rigidity—as if the chuck and nut were one solid piece. This superior rigidity ensures heavy duty machining without chatter.

The Base Master lineup is used with all types of machines and materials, including non-conductive cutting tools, workpieces and machine tools. Quickly measure workpiece offsets, tool lengths and cutting edges with zero risk of damage or breakage at submillimeter levels when needed.

The SU Type has a length of 235mm and rubber bellows. The larger MU Type is 360mm in length and has a reinforced ball joint with a large collar. Both use serrated washers instead of flat washers to reduce slippage and increase stability of the center joint.

The Model SDF57 assembly has an outside diameter of 2.83" and allows users of 3" face mills to access up to 19.68" of reach, the longest tool assembly in the industry using standard components. Face milling components used in construction equipment, aerospace and oil/gas industries…

To minimize machine downtime and provide operator safety, these Hydraulic Chucks use a simple hex wrench that requires only two to three turns for both clamping and unclamping. Tightening is complete when the clamping screw hits the bottom; controlling tightening torque is not needed. Once a…

The Chip Blower automates in-machine cleaning of coolant and chips by delivering high-volume air flow with spindle rotation. When not in use, the Chip Blower fits easily into any automatic tool change system for vertical, horizontal or multi-tasking machining centers. The Chip Blower can be used…

BIG KAISER’s modular CK/CKB system allows for versatility in the length of tooling combinations, up to a maximum of 10 times diameter and can run on nearly every major spindle interface. All tools are coolant-through and have three different insert holder options per head size. The tried-and-true…

As opposed to measuring, printing a label and punching the data into the control, SPI prints a tool label with a QR code at the presetter that’s then read by the SPI module at the machine control. The system can also be configured to send measurements directly into the tool NC’s offset table.
