BIG Kaiser Precision Tooling Inc. has introduced a new, high-precision hydraulic chuck for clamping straight shank tools with diameters ¼" to 1 ¼" and 6mm to 32mm. They are ideal for tools such as drills, reamers, ball mills, endmills and other tools used in processes that require extreme accuracy and a fine surface finish.
"Our customers in the automotive, aerospace and medical fields will love this tool holder for its precision and stability," says Jack Burley, BIG Kaiser vice president of sales and engineering. "What's more, cutting tools can be easily clamped and unclamped with just one wrench."
The hydraulic chucks are pre-balanced to within 15 gr.mm for vibration-free machining at speeds of up to 20,000 RPM. Precision and rigidity are improved due to an integral sleeve construction, dual-oil pressure points and a short projection length. They feature runout accuracy guaranteed to less than .00012" (3µm) at 4xD and repeatability less than .00006" (1.5µm), shown to improve the surface finish of workpieces and extend tool life. They are available for BIG-PLUS (CAT and BT), HSK and CAPTO interfaces.
Workholding device that affixes to a mill, lathe or drill-press spindle. It holds a tool or workpiece by one end, allowing it to be rotated. May also be fitted to the machine table to hold a workpiece. Two or more adjustable jaws actually hold the tool or part. May be actuated manually, pneumatically, hydraulically or electrically. See collet.
As opposed to measuring, printing a label and punching the data into the control, SPI prints a tool label with a QR code at the presetter that’s then read by the SPI module at the machine control. The system can also be configured to send measurements directly into the tool NC’s offset table.
The EWA68 boring head has a travel range of .866” on diameter, and with the smallest insert holder, it covers the range of Ø2.677-3.543”. This means that similar-sized bores on the same part could be produced with a single boring head. With the addition of two larger insert holders, the range can…
Chamfering the entry and exit of 0.80mm to 6.00mm holes can be a tedious, time-consuming process. The Noventa from Sphinx can transform this process using an innovative geometry that improves cycle time, tool life and surface quality.
The Nirox geometry has a degressive helix angle equal to 30 degrees at the point and is designed for accurate and precise hole location up to 9xD. A modern, TiAlSiN based coating allows for enhanced chip and coolant evacuation in difficult to machine and adhesive materials, such as titanium,…
Due to the small sizes of these boring heads, the digital display will no longer be present on the head itself, rather the adjustment value will be shown on a separate mobile device or tablet that has the BIG KAISER App installed. Once connected to the head, the App also can be used to set the…
The HDC jet-through type holders are ideal for high-precision 5-axis machining with maximum RPM of 35,000 and clamping range of ¼” to ½” and fit nearly any application in the automotive, aerospace, medical, and die and mold industries.
The exclusive FLM 3D chip-breaker design is used on PCD-tipped inserts ideal for finishing of aluminum components, where traditional flat-top inserts may produce a large continuous nest of chips that is difficult to remove from the bore and/or tool, even with high-pressure coolant. Three different…
BIG KAISER Precision Tooling is adding more than 30 pressed-geometry carbide inserts for its tools. The new insert design is the result of extensive research and testing.
BIG KAISER has added inch standard sizes for the U.S. market to the production of its BIG-PLUS BBT30 basic arbors (shell mill holders, endmill holders, shrink fit and blanks). The expansion allows for enhancements to the BBT30 program that satisfy demands specific to the North American market.
BIG KAISER has released a new set of insert grades for its indexable tools—C-Cutter Mini, C-Centering Cutter and Fullcut Mill. The new inserts are optimized to extend tool life in stainless steel or aluminum.
