Toshiba Machine Co., America offers the newest addition to its TUE Series of vertical boring and turning mills: the TUE-100. With a one meter (40") table diameter, this VTL is designed for high speed, heavy-duty cutting with a maximum load up to 2000 kg (4400 lbs.).
The TUE-100 utilizes the same field-tested design as larger TUE models, capitalizing on the identical ram cross section to support the railhead for increased precision. Further improving cutting performance are the two types of bearings to support both the radial and axial loads of the table, along with the high quality cast iron bed, specifically designed for efficient chip removal.
Sitting within a more compact 5m x 3.5m x 4m (200" x 138" x 174") footprint compared to larger models, the TUE-100 showcases the highest rapid rate available in its class with feed rates up to 2000mm/min, thus reducing cycle times and increasing productivity.
In addition, the wide range of table speeds allows for exceptional surface finishes on a variety of materials.
Related Glossary Terms
- boring
boring
Enlarging a hole that already has been drilled or cored. Generally, it is an operation of truing the previously drilled hole with a single-point, lathe-type tool. Boring is essentially internal turning, in that usually a single-point cutting tool forms the internal shape. Some tools are available with two cutting edges to balance cutting forces.
- feed
feed
Rate of change of position of the tool as a whole, relative to the workpiece while cutting.
- turning
turning
Workpiece is held in a chuck, mounted on a face plate or secured between centers and rotated while a cutting tool, normally a single-point tool, is fed into it along its periphery or across its end or face. Takes the form of straight turning (cutting along the periphery of the workpiece); taper turning (creating a taper); step turning (turning different-size diameters on the same work); chamfering (beveling an edge or shoulder); facing (cutting on an end); turning threads (usually external but can be internal); roughing (high-volume metal removal); and finishing (final light cuts). Performed on lathes, turning centers, chucking machines, automatic screw machines and similar machines.
