The closed-loop linear slide uses an optical position sensor with sub nanometer resolution and a voice coil linear motor to allow vertical (or horizontal) travel up to 7mm with a velocity up to 200mm/sec (8”/sec) for fast accurate scanning. Guided by low friction cross-roller bearings, this low-profile linear slide delivers long lasting performance in high duty cycle industrial applications. Ease-of-use is built in with a user-adjustable counterbalance, (e.g. for heavy, large NA microscope objective lenses up to 1kg in vertical applications) and hard stop adjustability to limit the travel range.

In addition to the microSD card, the solution includes the ‘iShield Camera Card Tool’ (iCCT) software, which is a free download from the Swissbit website. With iCCT, the card's security settings are activated via the computer before it is used for the first time. The user PIN is also set here. The card is then ready to deploy and will reliably capture all recorded camera data. iShield Camera supports Loop Recording, where a camera deletes the oldest recordings to make room for new data.

It represents a highly productive alternative to conventional turning where 80° & 35° corner inserts are fed in the same direction, and instead utilizes all 4 directions available on conventional 2 axis lathe (+Z, -Z, +X, -X) to maximize material removal.  The double-sided positive SuperTurnZ inserts have the same axial & radial rake angle and capability as standard ISO positive inserts, allowing for low cutting forces, but with double the cutting edges and much higher feed rate capabilities.

For maximum acceleration and velocity, KUKA’s optimal motion planning software calculates and sets the correct motion path to ensure that all the robot’s axes can finish moving simultaneously at the desired point in space. In electronics applications, there is little need for changes in part orientation, so necessary robot moves are up, down and inserting. The AF160 can process parts with an outside diameter of up to 60mm and a length of 250mm. The machining length is between 110 and 180mm. The eight axes – all of them independent – make the AF160 the most flexible Affolter machine to date. It can produce straight gears, helical gears, straight bevel gears, face gears, straight or helical crowned gears, worm screws, worm wheels, cylkro gears, and internal gears. Power skiving, the milling of worms and shafts, as well as chamfering is possible, too.

The ECM 2400 encoders are available with EnDat 2.2 interface. In conjunction with a safe control, they can be used as single-encoder systems in applications with control category SIL 2 (as per EN 61508) and with Performance Level “d” (as per EN ISO 13849). The fault exclusion that is implemented in its design has been tested and is ensured under the specified operating conditions.
