BXA20 Coated PCBN Grade
Tungaloy Corp. is launching the BXA20 series, a new coated PCBN grade for machining hardened steel. BXA20 delivers predictable and long tool life in a range of applications from roughing to finishing, including descaling of case hardened steel, which usually requires a large stock to be removed.
2017 CAM Products for Industrial Manufacturing
Autodesk is ushering in its new 2017 CAM products for a multitude of advanced manufacturing applications ranging from CNC mill- and lathe-programming to complex mold and die manufacturing. These new products combine the heritage of industry leadership in CAM software from Delcam with Autodesk's 3D design and manufacturing prowess, presenting Autodesk CAM customers with a powerful and unique user experience, according to the company.
Florida county boasts strong mfg community
Holmes County, Fla., home to a cluster of metal machining and fabrication outfits that employ skilled machinists and welders, has seen the manufacturing industry provide a solid foundation for economic opportunity and demand for a skilled workforce.
PACE helps finance green facility upgrades
Heller Machine Tools, Troy, Mich., is the first manufacturer to finance energy upgrades through a 2010 program authorized by the state of Michigan that allows municipalities to fund energy-efficiency improvements through a special assessment on a property.
Titanium-gold alloy is 4x harder than steel
Titanium is the leading material for artificial knee and hip joints, but a discovery by Rice University physicists shows that the gold standard for artificial joints can be improved with the addition of some actual gold.
LiftPlus Battery-Powered Lifting Product
Magline acquired the assets of The Mule battery-powered lifting product by Beyond Products Inc. The Magline branded and upgraded product has been launched and is called LiftPlus.
SMD Replaceable-Head Drill
Sumitomo Electric Carbide Inc. has expanded its SMD replaceable-head drill line to include 12XD drills. SMD replaceable-head drills reportedly allow for deep holemaking at a lower cost because SMD users buy just one drill body to fit up to five head sizes.
Rolled Media Vacuum Filter Systems
With companies' demands shifting from individual machines to central systems to support many different machines, Eriez HydroFlow continues to invest in improving and simplifying the design of their Rolled Media Vacuum Filter System. These state-of-the-art filters eliminate the need for multiple filters, free up valuable floor space and impart the highest level of performance and reliability.
Lynx EVO Stereo Microscope
Unlike conventional microscopes, the eyepiece‐less technology built into the Lynx EVO from Vision Engineering overcomes the ergonomic challenges faced with binocular microscopy. Operators experience both optical and postural ergonomics giving them ease of use with less physical strain.
LUMICLAD Black-Oxide Finish
The LUMICLAD finish from Birchwood Technologies forms a nearly non-dimensional black oxide finish on all aluminum surfaces. LUMICLAD is very durable, clean and tightly adherent to the metal substrate.
Rotational 3D Profilometry
Conventional profilometry scans sample surfaces from a single, fixed direction. This is only appropriate for measuring sufficiently flat samples, as opposed to cylindrical shapes that require a precise 360° rotation. For an application such as characterizing the helical cutting edge of a tool, a conventional machine would need multiple scans from different angles of the entire part, as well as significant post scan data manipulation.
Microfinish Attachments
In virtually all technical fields, the requirements placed on the quality of individual components are increasing. As a result of this, surface-improving and geometry-improving superfinishing techniques are becoming more important. Today, even smaller suppliers must be capable of working to the finest tolerances in dimensional accuracy.
