Versamax FHD26M EDM Drill

September 28, 2016

SST introduces the Versamax FHD26M manual fast-hole-drilling Machine. Built to SST specifications, the Versamax EDM drill can be used in applications ranging from simple wire EDM start holes, to complex patterns containing multiple hole sizes.

This machine supports fully submerged machining for trouble-free EDM drilling, which improves hole quality, adds process stability and facilitates break-through performance, according to the company. An advanced dielectric system and reservoir has both a full-sized EDM filtration unit and integrated di-resin system with dedicated pumps.

The machine has X-, Y- and Z-axis travels of 11.8 inches, 9.8 inches and 13.8 inches (300 mm, 250 mm and 350 mm), respectively. Maximum workpiece weight is 330 pounds (150 kg), with maximum workpiece size of 17.7 inches, 11.8 inches and 11.8 inches (450 mm, 300 mm and 300 mm), respectively. Glass scales are on the X, Y and Z axes.

A user-friendly ZNC control provides simplistic control of machining. A large touch keypad and LED digital readout offer easy operation and positioning.

  • electrical-discharge machining ( EDM)

    electrical-discharge machining ( EDM)

Process that vaporizes conductive materials by controlled application of pulsed electrical current that flows between a workpiece and electrode (tool) in a dielectric fluid. Permits machining shapes to tight accuracies without the internal stresses conventional machining often generates. Useful in diemaking.

  • wire EDM

    wire EDM

Process similar to ram electrical-discharge machining except a small-diameter copper or brass wire is used as a traveling electrode. Usually used in conjunction with a CNC and only works when a part is to be cut completely through. A common analogy is wire electrical-discharge machining is like an ultraprecise, electrical, contour-sawing operation.
