To overcome the challenges of chip formation and evacuation when drilling nonferrous metals, Sandvik Coromant has unveiled its CoroDrill 880 CVD diamond-coated insert grades, GCN124 and GCN134. The superhard properties of the diamond coating provide long tool life and combine with innovative chipbreaker and geometry designs to enhance performance when drilling materials such as aluminum.

​​​In conventional lathe-type machine tools, the capability of feed motion in the XZ plane is an inherent limitation. In a parting operation, this inevitably directs the resultant vector of cutting forces sharply across the cross-section of the tool, resulting in high loads and susceptibility to deformation. The classical parting blade design compensates for this with a large height relative to the width. Sandvik Coromant engineers now have a remedy that utilizes the modern machines’ capability to feed the tool in the Y direction.

The compact, high-precision Quicktech S-32 ATM 9-axis, twin-spindle mill/turn center combines integral-motor main- and sub-spindles with a 190° B-axis milling head and a fast automatic toolchanger to maximize output of small, complex parts.
