Traditionally, manufacturers have relied on mineral-oil based rust preventatives for temporary protection of metal components during storage and shipment. While these are effective, they must be disposed of as hazardous waste, introducing extra costs and complications to the cleanup process.
Cortec Corp. has an ongoing mission to replace hazardous materials with more environmentally responsible corrosion protection alternatives where possible. Cortec’s EcoLine 3220 is one option that gives users the benefits of an oil-based rust preventative without the hazards of traditional mineral oil rust preventatives and flammable
solvents.
Based on canola oil, EcoLine 3220 contains 99% USDA-certified biobased content. This ready-to-use temporary coating leaves behind a very thin but tenacious film that clings to metal surfaces, providing excellent contact corrosion protection in storage and shipment. EcoLine 3220 protects multiple metal types and can be used in almost any standard rust preventative application where corrosion protection is needed:
• Machines and equipment
• Wire
• Sheet metals
• Pipe
• Flanges
• Gears
• Fabricated or machined parts
• Ballast tank preservation (applied as a float coat)
EcoLine 3220 also provides lubrication and is especially useful where application must be done in freezing temperatures. It has been tested and found to be compatible with a number of elastomers, including Buna-N, butyl rubber, neoprene and silicon rubber.
