The FBX drill is part of a tooling concept specifically developed to maximize metal removal rates and decrease cycle times when machining aerospace structural components. Quickly removing large amounts of material remains a challenge for these types of components. Traditionally, the first process step is to enter the material by using ramping techniques. This is a time-consuming process and low metal removal rates are the norm.

It represents a highly productive alternative to conventional turning where 80° & 35° corner inserts are fed in the same direction, and instead utilizes all 4 directions available on conventional 2 axis lathe (+Z, -Z, +X, -X) to maximize material removal.  The double-sided positive SuperTurnZ inserts have the same axial & radial rake angle and capability as standard ISO positive inserts, allowing for low cutting forces, but with double the cutting edges and much higher feed rate capabilities.

The AF160 can process parts with an outside diameter of up to 60mm and a length of 250mm. The machining length is between 110 and 180mm. The eight axes – all of them independent – make the AF160 the most flexible Affolter machine to date. It can produce straight gears, helical gears, straight bevel gears, face gears, straight or helical crowned gears, worm screws, worm wheels, cylkro gears, and internal gears. Power skiving, the milling of worms and shafts, as well as chamfering is possible, too.

The compact format provides a rotation range up to 2° in theta-X / theta-Y and 5mm vertical (Z travel) range with excellent dynamics (up to 1g acceleration). The 250mm diameter (10”) platform can carry loads of 8kg (~18lbs), while the low profile of only 60mm (2.4”) keeps the center of gravity down, a great advantage in dynamic applications. The A-523 can be combined with the A-361 X-Y-θ Air Bearing Alignment Stage to form a very compact and low profile 6-axis precision motion system.

In electronics applications, there is little need for changes in part orientation, so necessary robot moves are up, down and inserting. Jergens’ 130mm hydraulic vise offers users the ability to position the jaws just outside of the dimension of the workpiece to minimize travel when clamping. Mencom’s new field wireable connectors are UL listed and provide IP69 protection. They are available in 3-pole and 4-pole with straight and right-angle orientations. Mencom is the industry's first electrical connector manufacturer to design and produce a right-angled version of the 1 3/8" field wireable connector. The right-angle profile is lower than the typical bend radius needed to mount a straight cable, providing a big advantage when installation space is limited.  Also, it removes undesirable cable strain caused by bending cables to fit in tight spaces.

The ECM 2400 encoders are available with EnDat 2.2 interface. In conjunction with a safe control, they can be used as single-encoder systems in applications with control category SIL 2 (as per EN 61508) and with Performance Level “d” (as per EN ISO 13849). The fault exclusion that is implemented in its design has been tested and is ensured under the specified operating conditions.

With an overall volume of only 16 liters and weighing just 9 kg, the KR C5 micro, allows users to mount the controller horizontally or vertically in a wall mounted/bookshelf orientation or stack multiple units on top of each other, or with an existing standard 19” rack mount cabinet. Optional mounting brackets for controller fastening allow the new controller to adapt to existing industry standard rack mount rails for having multiple robot controllers within a single cabinet. Plus, with a lighter, more compact design, the KR C5 micro is easy to deliver/ship, set up and relocate if needed.

With this new tool, V or D-style inserts with just two cutting edges and lower stability (ISO VBMT, VCMT, DCMT) are replaced with triangular cutting inserts with three cutting edges and high stability. These three-edged inserts allow for a 50° undercut angle, ideal for profiling operations. Since the insert shape enables turning both towards as well as away from the spindle, both cutting edges of the insert get utilized, substantially increasing the tool life. Additionally, with the chip thinning calculations, substantially higher feeds can be achieved, especially when the insert is feeding away from spindle.

In developing a measurement and feedback process, for each parameter/feature listed, ANCA and ZOLLER have worked together to agree upon a fixed ZOLLER measurement process and a fixed ANCA grinding parameter adjustment to which it is directly linked. Wheel adjustments are not supported as an option for this method of compensation. Adjustments are applied to parameters for compensation without changing the design parameters.

The Sensor for metal cutting machines is compatible with coolants of all manufacturers and monitors them automatically. The Liquidtool Sensor regularly takes coolant from the machine tank and measures the sample with the built-in refractometer and thermometer. It stores the data gathered securely on the corresponding platform, allowing deviations to be detected at an early stage. Users can add additional values such as pH, nitrite and water hardness manually.
