Much of 2016 and 2017 has been a stressful roller coaster ride for our shop and me and my family as we have fought through a difficult economy—the worst in 30 years. Manufacturing and its myths: Design & Engineering
Since the time CTE Editor Alan Richter started covering manufacturing for CTE in 2000, industry professionals have frequently informed him that manufacturing jobs typically pay more than most other professions, such as sales and low-level, white-collar jobs. Furthermore, he was told, they provide a multiplier, or ripple, effect—in which one manufacturing job produces numerous other jobs.
AMT: Expansion in U.S. manufacturing technology orders accelerating
The Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT) reports that June manufacturing technology orders climbed 6.5 percent over May. The latest U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders (USMTO) report also shows a year-over-year increase of more than 10 percent, the fifth consecutive month posting a year-over-year gain.
Electrak HD Heavy-Duty Electromechanical Linear Actuators
Thomson Industries Inc. has announced availability of new synchronization capabilities for its Electrak HD heavy-duty electromechanical linear actuators. Designers of equipment in which large or awkward loads must be moved repeatedly and evenly can simultaneously distribute that load using up to four actuators.
