FANUC America Marks 35 Years of Manufacturing Robots in the U.S.
FANUC America has marked the 35th anniversary of manufacturing its line of painting robots at the company's Rochester Hills, Mich., headquarters. In 1982, FANUC America produced its first NC Painter, a hydraulic paint robot using key components from parent company FANUC Corp. in Japan.
Mazak, Muratec join forces in MAZATEC SMS smart manufacturing system
Yamazaki Mazak Corp. and Murata Machinery, Ltd. (Muratec) have collaborated in the development of the MAZATEC SMS, an advanced manufacturing system designed to provide efficiency by performing unmanned machining. It incorporates the internal factory material handling technology of Muratec with the advanced horizontal machining centers and multi-tasking machine tools of Mazak Corp.

On Robot introduces grippers for cobots
On Robot ApS, a Danish manufacturer of grippers for collaborative robots (cobots) that was founded in 2014, is introducing its technology to the North American market and has appointed Gary Eliasson as its general manager for North America. He will be based in Charlotte, N.C.
TRAUB TNL20 Sliding/Fixed-Headstock Automatic Lathe
TRAUB, a brand of the INDEX Group, Reichenbach, Germany, has introduced the sliding/fixed-headstock automatic lathe TRAUB TNL20 that adds numerous improvements in productivity, precision and automation to the TNL line. It can be equipped to use up to four tools simultaneously.
MS40-8 Multispindle Automatic Lathe
INDEX has developed a new generation of its multispindle automatic lathe series, this time with eight CNC spindles, two back-working spindles for rear-end machining, deploying up to 18 CNC slides (X and Z) and additional Y axes if required. The machine is suitable for high-volume precision work in the automotive, fastener, connector and aerospace industries.
SLOTWORX HP Milling System
The SLOTWORX HP milling system from POKOLM Frästechnik GmbH & Co. KG, with its new shoulder facemilling inserts where r = 0.8 mm, is known for its high performance in the high-feed range. The symbiosis of an especially innovative insert geometry, with the proven carbide and an extremely smooth and wear-resistant coating, guarantees long tool life when it comes to finishing vertical and plain surfaces, according to the company.
Live Tooling for Specific Turning Center Brands
Heimatec offers live tooling for all popular models in the Hyundai, Miyano and Nakamura turning center lines. According to Preben Hansen, Heimatec president, "We're carrying a substantial inventory of live tools for our customers' machines now and it represents a substantial financial and warehouse space commitment we've made to support them in the North American market."
Kitagawa North-Tech to open new facility in Mexico
Kitagawa North-Tech Inc., Schaumburg, Ill., reportedly will open a new office and warehouse facility in Queretaro, Mexico, on April 7. Kitagawa North-Tech, which makes standard chucks, advanced chucks, cylinders, steady rests, custom-engineered workholding and workholding accessories, described the new facility as a demonstration of the company's "commitment to Mexican customers," according to a March 17 company news release.
Manufacturing software maker Plex Systems exploring sale?
Sources tell Reuters that Plex Systems Inc, a privately held U.S. maker of software used to run manufacturing plants, is exploring a potential sale that it hopes will value it at more than $1 billion, including debt.
