Abtex names new Systems Group manager
Abtex Corp., Dresden, NY, a leading manufacturer of brush/machine deburring solutions for the manufacturing industry, recently promoted Damian Clemens to Systems Group Manager. Clemens joined Abtex in 2014 when his company—Nihmble Technologies—was acquired by Abtex.
Okuma names new coordinator for Houston Tech Center
Okuma America Corp., Charlotte, N.C., recently named Ted Winkle as coordinator of the company's Houston Tech Center (HTC). Winkle will oversee management of all HTC activities as well as support sales and Okuma's distribution partner Hartwig.
LinX – The Evolution of the Linear Motor
Looking for a way to reduce grinding cycle times and improve cutting tool quality in order to satisfy customer requirements, Myles most recently invested in an ANCA MX7 Linear CNC tool grinder with linear motors. The LinX Linear Motor consists of a shaft containing magnets and a forcer containing wound copper coils.
Dot peening in a 3D world
With an amplitude of 16mm, the 3D stylus tip extends and retracts automatically as it follows the shape of various parts in this video from Gravotech Marking SAS. The 3D stylus is a very high amplitude stylus capable of following the relief of every part to be marked.
Hand scraping
While many call hand scraping a lost art, Okuma begs to differ, the company report in a July 2013 video. "While it might be rare to find a craftsman skilled enough to hand scrape effectively, we never lost the art simply because we've always understood how critical hand scraping is to maintaining machining accuracy," according to the company's YouTube channel.
USCTI launches careers website
The United States Cutting Tool Institute (USCTI), a leading trade association for the North American cutting tool industry, recently launched Careers In Manufacturing, a website that promotes careers in manufacturing and provides resources for students, educators, parents and manufacturers.
TruPrint 1000 LMF 3D Printer
The new TruPrint 1000 LMF 3D printer works like a selective laser melting 3D printer, using a powder bed process to build 3D parts by laying down a thin layer of metal powder materials onto the build surface while a 200-watt laser fuses the layer of powder along the contour of the part being printed.
Samputensili SG 160 SKY GRIND
Samputensili offers a ground-breaking concept that totally eliminates the need for cutting oils during the grinding of gears after heat treatment. The new machine, which is called SG 160 SKY GRIND, features two spindles: one for skive hobbing and one for generating grinding.
TH1000 and TH1500 Turning Insert Grades
Seco has increased the application range of its wear-resistant TH1000 and TH1500 turning insert grades by adding new positive and negative geometries, chip breakers and nose radius sizes to the line. The additions allow manufacturers that process hardened steels, superalloys and cast irons to further increase their machining capabilities.
TM series tool storage
"TM" series tool storage magazine assemblies are electro-mechanically driven and easy to install. They do not require any pneumatics or hydraulics, and, as such, are extremely reliable, repetitive and low maintenance.
CompactGRIP self-centering vises
Italian workholding manufacturer Gerardi SPA offers its new line of self-centering CompactGRIP vises for 5-axis machining. The line offers higher clamping power than existing vises, because the clamping screw design is positioned very close to the workpiece and the integral design of slides and jaws, according to the company.
Meister expands manufacturing of large wheels for OD grinding
Meister Abrasives USA Inc. in December 2015 added an advanced CNC manufacturing system to its lineup, making it possible for the North Kingstown, R.I., company to manufacture large diameter external wheels in the United States using equipment, materials and a manufacturing process identical to those used by its parent corporation in Switzerland.
