Finding the source of chatter
The Grinding Doc offers a simple test to determine the cause of chatter.
The allure of aluminum
Effectively milling aluminum requires balancing all elements of a cutting tool.
Ballscrew breakthrough
With technology under development at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany, machining firms soon may be able to improve the process of spotting ballscrews in danger of failing.

Learn the ins and outs of centerless grinding
Any machinist probably has heard of centerless grinding, but it is an obscure process often only familiar in name.
Episode 103: Cylindrical grinding relief
Dr. Jeffrey Badger provides a simple, if not pretty, solution to a nasty cylindrical grinding problem — when the side of a grinding wheel meets a flat surface. Watch the 103rd episode of the Grinding Doc video series.
VFD & VFD Plus Kits
Made in the USA, both VFD kits are also suited for smaller garage/machine shops, mills, lathes, and grinders. Adaptable to most applications, the VFD kits can run the motor on 220V single-phase incoming power vs. requiring three-phase power – eliminating the need for a phase converter convenient package, it can go up to 5,000 RPMs in high gear–10-15% higher than the standard milling machine could do. Unlike early VFD kits, these provide full-torque at the lowest RPM.
Desktop CNC Milling Machine
The Bantam Tools Desktop CNC Milling Machine is fast, easy to set up, and omes with software that allows for predictable outcomes, including automatic material location, effectively bringing aluminum prototyping to an accessible and affordable level that has not been seen in this category. Bantam Tools Milling Machine Software also supports a simple drag-and-drop integration with SVG files for 2.5D designs.n
Double Turbo Square Shoulder Mills and Inserts
This system features a highly accurate geometry with the most positive helix angle possible to reduce the likelihood of surface mismatches and enable impressive 90-degree angle accuracy. With such precision, finishing cycle times are significantly shortened or, in some cases, completely eliminated. Double Turbo cutters are available in 19 metric variants ranging from diameter 40 mm to 125 mm and 16 inch variants ranging from 1.50" to 5".n
